WE HAVE VOTED FOR SELF SERVING MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT
-“Today I stand as a simple Motswana who has experienced her fellow sisters perish because of a poor health system.”.. Semphiwe Mojaphoko.
Today has been the most difficult day of my life…such an emotional roller coaster. My family attended a cousin’ wedding ko Maun. Coming back today just a little after 1p.m, 90km from Gantsi, Gabs bound , we found a minibus (combi) e pitikologile. This Combi was also off to Gabs. We were the 2nd group of people go goroga at the scene re hithela batho ba santse ba le hoo, with some combi e ba kgwetse mo tseleng. Re 4 in our car, and by God’s grace, we were with our little sister who is a medical doctor. We jumped into action with our little first aid kit re sena di glove. We wore plastic bags to help those poor people with very bad head injuries. The first group of people we found on the scene ba lwela go tshwara network to call for help re sa tshware any emergency line. Ga tla borre bangwe ba mapodise bare they have a camp mo Okwa(sp) who kept trying with their satellite phone go tshwara mapodise le ambulance. What was frustrating about that situation was their line would be picked ke operator wa Phikwe who was asked to pass the message for assistance to ba Gantsi. We were assured Ghantsi was called and the ambulances are on their way. The first hour went with no sign of either mapodise ape kana ba bongaka. All this time the injured people ba mo letsatsing le le bothoko, they are getting dehydrated and losing a lot of blood re emetse ditlamelo only 90km away. We were quickly moving into the 2nd hour of waiting Batswana ba ema go leba ba heta, with only a few stopping to help ka bo metsi and whatever was in their cars that could be of use. I went on the road jaanong stopping every car in site to ask for gloves and ga ke neng ka utlwa botlhoko teng is when I stopped this particular white Fortuner with 2 gentlemen mo teng ebile o bona gore ne ba sa batle go ema. I insisted they stop ka ne ke batla go kopa surgical gloves from the F.A.K if they had it. I was met with such hostility and dis-interest from them…ba chobetse dikipa tsa party e ke e thophileng( don’t get me wrong and think I am out to call out any party), mme hela seeing a whole Mopalamente o batho ba mo tlhophileng walk into such a scene, with such disinterest, walked back to his fancy car with his mate ba chobetse tees tsa Bdp and drive off ba tlogela Batswana ba ba tlhophileng jalo was the most disheartening thing ever. Ga ba ise ko ba mpotse gore go diragetse, why medics ba seo on the scene, how they could help, nothing!! They were mere spectators who couldn’t be bothered with the situation. Ga ba sena go tsamaya ga feta metsotso le metsotso 2 hrs a wela with no sign of help, I got so angry hela gore mopalamente #Thiite couldn’t even be bothered to drive straight to Gantsi Hospital go ya go re biletsa ambulance bogolo. I wondered what kind of legislators we have voted to serve us, if he is failing to serve only 14 people in his 1st month of appointment. Poor people who were fighting for their lives. It got me so perturbed to think and actually have a realisation that we have voted for self serving people who do not care about a simple Motswana. We continued to try and make batho ba ba Modimo as comfortable as we could, running between all of them, re bua le bone to keep them awake as they kept slipping in and out of consciousness. Fortunately a little after the 2nd hour of being on the scene, the 1st ambulance from Bere came in…by that time, we had already lost one person. Now the interesting part is bone ba ba ambulance ga ba goroga, they come with such rotten attitudes, telling us to relax and step back and did not even bother go botsa gore situation ya batho ba ke eng. Ke rona re ne re ba kgalemela ba batla le go emeletsa batho ba re neng re setse re lemogile gore have back and internal injuries le concussions. We lost the 2nd person ke mo tshwere ke leka go mo thantsha gore a seka a robala, she took her last breath ke mo tshwere la nkutwa. Had there been swift emergency response, we would not have lost those two ladies and the rest would not have moved into critical states. I do not even want to talk about ambulances that came di sena le ha ele oxygen tanks, stretchers, portable bp machines or even a simple stethoscope. Ke gore these medics ba tsile hela ka box ya surgical gloves. Ga ke neng ka sala ke gakagametse ebile ke le worried is how these people were loaded ba le 2(as they were critical, we insisted ba pegwa ba le 2) nurse kana ke paramedic a bo a ya go pagama le Driver ko pele a ba tlogela ba le nosi at the back all the way to Gantsi. People whom we had given their stats gore ga ba heme sentle o mongwe ebile sale re goroga on the scene a le unconscious a sa heme sentle, o mongwe a slipper in and out of consciousness ebile are o bata go kgwa, e bo ba tsamaya go sena o ba tlamelang mo ambulance???!! We could only pray they arrive ba thuswe ko Gantsi without the number of casualties rising. We stayed on that scene until all were loaded on the 2nd ambulance, open van ya mapodise, le the deceased ba tserwe, dithotho tsa bone di pegile mo koloing ya prisons e neng e iphetela hela hoo. Today I stand as a simple Motswana who has experienced her fellow sisters perish because of a poor health system. I then realised most people that actually lose their lives ka RTAs ga se gore ba bo ba gobetse thata, ba bolawa ke go lathegelwa ke madi while someone is still dragging their feet, go sa bonwe driver tsa emergency cars, emergency response lines di sa arabiwe, ambulances di sena equipment ebile di tla ka inexperienced medics who have no clue gore ba tshwanetse go dirang. I call on the relevant legislators le ene #honourableThiite, who saw this first hand today, #Gomasisi, #MokgweetsiMasisi, #MinisterKwape #LefokoMoagi,#EricMolale,#ThapeloLetsholo, #Rakgare, #UnityDow, #MphoBalopi (you will tag other legislators) to step up and do something about such situations. It high time mo ditseleng tsone tsa bo Gantsi ga go senang metse teng, go nna le emergency posts tsa ambulances, fire le mapodise a nna foo. It’s high time government buy di plane to air lift batho ba ba gobetseng…luxury cars tsa mapalamente, ministers, bo PS, directors are parked in basements tsa govt offices underutilised while there is an acute shortage of ambulances. I will not rest after the trauma I experienced today until all Legislators are accountable to Batswana ka kgang tsa botsogo. I demand a full investigation gore why it toke over 2 hrs for an ambulance to reach an accident scene ebile e tla hela e tshwana le koloi ngwe le engwe. #Thiite you owe Batswana an explanation ya gore o paletswe ke eng go emela Motswana ka dinao when a go thoka thata.
