MASISI PLEDGES NO ABUSE OF POWER

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says he intends on using the declaration of the State of Emergency solely for the purpose of protecting Batswana against the decimating potentials of the Novel COVID-19 virus.

Addressing the on-going special meeting of National Assembly this morning President Masisi called on members of parliament to unite in the fight against the Corona virus.

President Masisi said having worked together in the past to address national issues, the Covid19 pandemic present the need to work together to deal with the dreadful virus which knows no political boundaries.

He said real change comes when visionary leaders creatively and constructively engage each other with a common goal. “Our common goal today, is to protect the interests of this country and its people,” he said.

President Masisi assured members of parliament and Batswana that he will not rule the country by decree, adding that he will not lead proud and beloved Botswana, by diminishing its values of freedom and other enshrined rights that have made Botswana unique.

“I did not campaign for election as President of this celebrated democracy for me to erode civil liberties upon coming into office”’ he said.
